2011 Webby Awards big winners

The comedy site Funny or Die was the large winner of the Webby Awards claimed Tues. With other prizes going to online phenom Justin Bieber and the mobile game sensation indignant Birds. The Funny or Die site founded by comedians Will Ferrell and Adam McKay win 8 Webbys, while Bieber won a peoples's choice award for best video, and annoyed Birds was named best game. Now in their fifteenth year, the Webbys are widely considered to be the Academy Awards of the web. Winners were selected by a committee of judges including cooking guru Martha Stewart, Twitter founder Biz Stone and Arianna Huffington, creator of The Huffington Post. The awards will be presented on June thirteen in N.Y. Hangover star Zach Galifianakis won 3 awards - the maximum of any individual - thanks to his popular web series Between 2 Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, while ex-Friends star Lisa Kudrow was a multiple winner for her series Web Therapy. The NY Times web site scored wins in multiple classes including How-To, Travel and Mobile, while NPR.org was named best web site. Colonnade Fire's The Outback Downtown won in the video class while ESPN and AOL won one or two prizes. Lego.com won for best default home page, and The New Yorker won for best mag. WhatImade.com was named the best private blog. "This year's Webby winners embody the kind of serious effect the web has on preferred culture and the world at large," asserted David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards. "From colonnade Fire's reinvention of the music promo format with The Outback Downtown, or The NY Times coverage of radical reform in Egypt and the Middle East, the Net is the driver of change in the world today. ".
